Hi friends! Welcome to my skincare post not only for beginners but for those of you out there that are looking to refine your skincare routine. Skincare is a passion of mine, I am constantly trying new products, and reading up on new ingredients and brands.SO I figured it is time I sit down and write the post that I personally would have loved to have found 5 years ago.
You might be thinking, how will this routine stick more than what I have tried in the past? Well my friend the answer is simple. This routine is bare bones. The entire routine is only a few steps in the morning and at night. It will take you no more than 5 minutes. Heck you could probably get it down to 2 minutes if you really want.
Why this routine for my 20’s? This routine will get you familiar with what works for your skin, and most importantly get you started with good habits from this day forward.
Morning:
Step 1: Cleanse Your Skin With a Gentle Skin Cleanser: The point of cleansing in the morning is to remove any leftover product from the night before and start with a clean slate. My favorites are Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser & Glossier Milk Jelly Cleanser.
Step 2: Vitamin C Serum (Apply To Your Face and Neck): Applying a Vitamin C Serum will brighten your skin, reduces dark spots over time, and fights free radicals(like pollution in the air that is harmful to your skin!). My favorite(and affordable!) option is TrueSkin Vitamin C Serum.
Step 3: Apply Eye Cream to Your Eye Area: Eye cream will provide the sensitive skin around your eye additional hydration, as well as creating a smooth canvas for applying makeup. I use this eye cream both morning and night.
Step 4: Apply Moisturizer: Applying moisturizer is absolutely necessary, even if you have oily skin. A good moisturizer will balance the ph of your skin(meaning if you are dry it will provide hydration and if you are oily it will chill out your oil production). My favorite moisturizer(Neutrogena Hydroboost) is a water gel and does not make your skin feel greasy. Not to mention it is a drugstore product and is better quality then most of the prestige brand moisturizers I have used!
Step 5: Apply Sunscreen to Your Face and Neck: First off you might be thinking why don’t I just use a moisturizer with sunscreen in it? A majority of combination moisturizers with sunscreen do not protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Additionally sun protection is the single best thing you can do to prevent skin cancer as well as aging. So investing a little more in a great sunscreen is SO WORTH IT! My go to is Glossier Invisible Shield and is so lightweight.
Night:
Step 1: Cleanse Your skin to Remove Makeup: I use the same Cetaphil cleanser at night to remove my makeup!
Step 2: Use an Acid for Chemical Exfoliation: Chemical exfoliation will boost cell turnover in your skin. This will make your skin clear and bright. My current favorite is Pixi Glow Tonic. I apply Glow Tonic by soaking a cotton pad and swiping it around my face 2-3 nights a week.
Step 3: Eye Cream: same as the morning!
Step 4A: Moisturizer: I use the same moisturizer morning and night most of the time. If my skin is feeling extra dehydrated(normally during the winter I use the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. It is VERY hydrating.
Step 4B: Apply an Overnight Moisturizing Mask Once a Week: I use an overnight moisturizing mask once a week(in place of my moisturizer) to give my skin an extra boost of vitamins and hydration. My absolute favorite is by Summer Fridays and is called the Jet Lag Mask. This mask can be left on for ten minutes or if you want the extra boost like me sleep with it on!
That is it guys! In no time you will not only be able to complete your skincare routine quickly, but you might find yourself in the same boat as me(looking forward to doing your skincare, I find it so relaxing!).
This was so helpful! I have been trying to find a good routine and love that you include some natural/clean products!
SO glad you liked it! I am constantly working to find more clean/affordable products that WORK!!
Awesome post! I wish I would’ve found vitamin C a long time ago! It’s my favorite part of skincare routine.
Thank you! Vitamin C is also one of my favorites, it has made such a difference in the overall brightness of my skin!
