Located a short 1.5 hour train ride from Munich and a 3 hour train ride from Vienna lies Salzburg, Austria. Salzburg is nestled amongst the Alps and is most well known for being featured throughout The Sound of Music as well as being the town where Mozart was born. To say Salzburg is charming is an understatement. It is the perfect small town to stop in for 2-3 days amongst your European getaway.
Below is a list of my favorites from Salzburg that I cannot recommend enough if you are visiting! You truly will fall in love with this quaint city whether you are strolling the streets of University Square or drinking a beer at the Augustinerbräu.

SLEEP
Hotel Imlauer & Brau we stayed at this hotel and I would 100% go back. The location is PERFECT for walking everywhere.

Eat & Drink
Augustinerbräu The most amazing beer garden you will ever go to!!! No joke. This place serves their food traditional deli style. And it is so delicious. Now more importantly: the beer. You grab a mug off the shelf, and immediately dunk it into a fountain of fresh mountain spring water from the nearby Alps. Your icy cold mug is now the perfect vessel for the local beer. Lastly your mug is filled with the one delicious kind of beer they are currently pouring.
Braurestaurant Imlauer This restaurant is connected to hotel Imlauer. The large menu is full of traditional Austrian dishes. Additionally we received some of the best service throughout our entire trip when dining here.
Strobl-Stuberl A tiny local restaurant serving up different Austrian dishes daily. We overheard that area chefs congregate here after hours to eat. That’s how you know it’s delicious!
Stiegl Brewery is located on the edge of the city (just a five minute cab ride away). While in Salzburg it only makes sense to tour the brewery that serves as one of the most dominant breweries in Austria. Plus you have to have a Radler right from the source.

Sites & Activities
Cable Car Untersberg This cable car is one of the most amazing things I have ever done! It is a short 15 minute cab ride from the city, and it is pretty crazy how quickly you are right in the Alps. As your cable car ascends into the mountains you realize it’s going further than you even thought was possible. Once you reach the top be sure to take in the breathtaking views and have a beer at the mountaintop bar. Bonus! The bar was filled with a bunch of fluffy mountain dogs when I was there!
University Square This adorable area is right in the city center and is perfect for an afternoon stroll. While you are there be sure to see the home where Mozart was born.
Mirabell Gardens These gardens may be familiar(they were featured in The Sound of Music). They are located right within the city, and are not to be missed!
Hohensalzburg Fortress This fortress is one of the largest medieval castles in all of Europe. The views from the top are amazing.

Yes, this city and area are beautiful!! Gives you a sense of peace and tranquility when you are there.
It really does! So beautiful!
Your pictures are so cute! I’m so glad you guys had fun. I love the idea of dunking your mug in icy water before pouring beer in it! Genius!
Thank you!! I am already ready to start planning my next Eurotrip!
