When I first heard about dermaplaning I assumed it was a fad. I thought to myself there is no way I am going to be shaving my face. Flash forward a few years and here I am shaving my face on a monthly basis, and posting a video of the process on Instagram. Okay let’s back up and talk about why shaving your face is something you just might want to try.
DERMAPLANING 101
The OG definition of dermaplaning is a treatment that is performed with a scalpel by a dermatologist in an office. This treatment consists of the scraping of the top layer of skin aka the ultimate form of physical exfoliation. As with most things the beauty community became obsessed with this treatment and somewhere along the way people began doing a similar DIY treatment at home. Also known as shaving your face(you know like the way Tom Sandoval did in season one of Vanderpump Rules.)
A FEW CALLOUTS
If you have rosacea or super sensitive skin check with your doctor before shaving your face at home. Additionally make sure you avoid any acne. Scraping off a pimple might seem like a good idea but trust me it’s not, and it will scar.
Use a razor that is meant for your face. I use these Tinkle razors from Amazon. Only use each razor once. The last thing we want is to be removing a layer of our skin with a razor that is not clean.
BENEFITS
– Smoother skin, skin so smooth your makeup will look better than it ever has before.
– Skincare products penetrate better.
– Temporarily boosts collagen production.
– Prevent oil and dead skin buildup.
