Wonder why I am suggesting rolling tiny needles all over your face? For plumper, glowy skin of course. For starters let’s take it back to basics and dive into exactly what micro-needling is.
WHAT IS MICRO-NEEDLING?
Micro-needling is the act of rolling a micro-roller(think a tiny paint roller covered in needles) across your face and neck. As you roll the needles make small punctures/holes in the top layer of your skin. Your body recognizes these holes as injuries and goes into overdrive to repair your skin. The result is increased cell turnover, which brings new skin the surface at a faster rate. BONUS: the tiny holes serve as the perfect way for our beloved serums(cough retinol) to penetrate even deeper.
BENEFITS OF MICRO-NEEDLING
Micro-needling kicks your body straight into work mode. During work mode your skin is pumped full of vitamins and other building blocks(like collagen).
Skincare professionals say increased collagen production is rare with at home micro-needling based on the tiny size of needles used. MY THOUGHTS? It depends on YOUR SKIN. Will you see drastic results from micro-needling done in office with a larger needle? OF COURSE. But can you see results over time from micro-rolling at home? Yes.

HOW TO PICK A MICRO-ROLLER
Remember one thing when buying your micro-roller: tt is only safe to use a micro-roller at home that is .3mm or smaller. A roller with needles thicker than this could cause serious damage to your skin if not used properly. So lets leave the big guys to TRAINED estheticians and derm’s.
I use the below .2mm roller made by Stacked Skincare and I love it. BONUS: it comes in a plastic case that can be used for continual storage.

HOW TO MICRO-NEEDLE
There are a few key things/practices to keep in mind as you begin your micro-needling journey.
1. Be GENTLE! Roll around your face, but be nice to your skin. I roll in all different directions, and focus a lot on my forehead, under-eye area, and the corners of my nose(The areas that tend to be the most challenging to improve for me.)
2. Find a cadence that works for you. Micro-rolling is NOT an everyday thing, and your skin needs time to recover. I micro-roll one or at most two-time a week. Back when I started it was more like one time every two weeks.
It is ideal to micro-roll at night, after cleansing but before using your serums!
3. CLEAN YOUR MICRO-ROLLER! I use a tiny spray bottle, filled with alcohol. Simply mist your roller before putting it back in my case every-time I use it.
MY JOURNEY WITH MICRO-ROLLING
After reading a few too many skincare articles on Byrdie I bought my micro-roller on Amazon. Upon opening the package I’m not going to lie I got a little spooked. I was beyond nervous micro-needling was going to really hurt. Much to my surprise micro-rolling wasn’t painful at all.
Immediate Results I See: After micro-needling the next morning I notice my skin looks plumper and is full on glowing. This can be directly correlated to my skin going into over-drive overnight! These immediate results typically fade within a day.
Long-Term Results I See:Glowy, smooth skin. I notice results the most in my forehead and under-eye area. Micro-needling with some of my favorite serums has amped up the power of my products. That’s what we all want right? Our precious skincare to perform to its utmost ability.
Long story short you CAN micro-needle in a safe, effective way at home. Buy a micro-roller with needle size .3mm or smaller and roll away. Plumper, glowy skin coming right up!
