To say I got inspired by the spring weather last week would be an understatement.
I couldn’t stop thinking about writing this post a week or so ago when it was sunny and 50 in Chicago! Now it may be snowing today but I know spring is still closer than ever. And before we know it we will be immersed in patio season again(!!).
With spring comes the joy of wearing all of my favorite clothes without covering them in a giant parka. It is pretty dang hard to beat the joy I feel during my morning commute when it is sunny, warm enough to not wear a coat, and I am strutting my way down Randolph Street while listening to one of my favorite podcasts.
And with that comes my favorite go-to transition outfit for spring. I wear this to work, to brunch, and to do just about anything else during the spring.
Why I Love This Outfit:
In transitional periods, mostly spring and fall this outfit is a staple in my wardrobe. I throw these staples together for an effortless yet put together look(& comfortable!). I have broken down the various aspects of my outfit below, and included links to some of my favorite shop-able options for spring.
How To Pull It Together:
1. Denim Jacket
A denim jacket is a wardrobe staple. I wear this item to death spring-fall. My jacket hits right below the waist and I love it. This year I also would love to invest in an extended length(boyfriend fit) denim jacket to change up my options.
I live for denim on denim but I have heard from so many people that they think they look childish in denim! If you are nervous about incorporating denim into your wardrobe try pairing a denim jacket with a simple dress and cute sneakers. It’s perfect for those warmer months.
2. Simple Black Top(or bodysuit)
I have no joke worn this bodysuit to death. Anybody who knows me well knows I tend to change clothes oh about 5 times before I leave the house(normally this includes me staring at my closet and sighing multiple times). So when in doubt I go back a black top(or dress) if I just don’t feel confident in my outfit, and it never fails. I have a variety of black tops/body suits with varying neck lines to mix and match with just about anything at this point.
My favorite place to find a good variety of these tops on a budget is ASOS. ASOS also has petite and tall collections which is amazing! BONUS they always ship for free over $40.
3. Slip-On Sneakers
These red Vans are easily one of my favorite things I own. The classic red pattern feels so classic to me. If you are in the market for a pair of slip-ons I would strongly suggest going for actual Vans, as opposed to a knockoff. They are pretty affordable and also have a comfortable insole.
And! if you are feeling crazy maybe even go for a platform slide on sneaker.
My specific shoes are linked here! I bought them off amazon and have not been able to find them anywhere else.
4. Neck Scarf or Bandana
Tying a rolled bandana around my neck is the accessory I have been crazy about since last summer. It gives a nod to classic french girl style(especially if you use a silky scarf). Isn’t French girl style the ultimate goal? I prefer to lay the bandana out, roll it, and then wrap it around my neck, tie it in the front and turn the knot slightly to the side.
Sometimes the ends of my scarf will lay funky after I tie it, so I will take my hair straightener on the lowest setting and lightly run it across the ends. Of course be sure your fabric is okay with this before doing so.
What are your go-to wardrobe staples and accessories? I’d love to hear!
