The weather began to change in Chicago this year and I started the hunt for a new parka. I purchased my first knee length parka a few years ago and it has served me well. Coming off of a few brutal winters my parka has definitely lost some warmth and started to wear thin. When Everlane(one of my favorite retailers) announced they were creating a line of outerwear made almost completely out of recycled plastic, I was immediately intrigued.
ReNew is a new line of cozy items, ranging from sweatshirts to puffer coats by Everlane. The entire line is designed with quality in mind and is made from plastic(think 3 million plastic bottles).
Why Plastic?
Plastic surrounds us all day. A few of the most common offenders are single use plastic water bottles, food containers, and cosmetics packaging. This year alone over 161 million tons of new plastic waste will be created by the industrial industry(source: Everlane).
The Real Question: How Warm Is This Recycled Plastic?
In short: super warm! I ordered the long puffer, which is recommended for temperatures sub 30 degrees fahrenheit, and it is WARM. The color I selected, surplus is a beautiful olive green. I have not stopped wearing my new parka since receiving it, and am beyond impressed with many details on it.
Pockets: the large snap close pockets, which are lined with cozy fleece(so SOFT) are perfect for the days you forget your gloves
Drawstring Waist: within the lining there is an adjustable drawstring waist so you can tighten the coat to your liking. It creates a feminine shape, that a lot of puffers lack
Hood: the hood on this parka is small and kind of fitted. The shape when pulled up stays put without having to hold the hood up. Perfect for those super windy days!

Having the option to get a coat of amazing quality that has been up-cycled, at a price under $200 makes me SO excited to see what is to come over the next few years. Especially from companies like Everlane. Small changes are better then no changes in my mind!
